Opening Meme:

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today? Queensbury, NY

2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to? Labor Day by Joyce Maynard and Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin. I also have a book that I have been struggling to get through, Delicious and Suspicious by Riley Adams, and I am hoping maybe I can finish it finally.

3) Which snack are you most looking forward to? The Read-a-thon kind of snuck up on me, so I didn't pre-plan anything. Probably we will order pizza and wings, at least. That tends to be a tradition for each read-a-thon that I have done.

4) Tell us a little something about yourself! I am currently going through the process to have weight-loss surgery, so the pizza and wings probably isn't a good idea, but, oh well. We'll see what happens. :-)

5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to? I have participated in almost all of the read-a-thons from the very beginning. I think I missed one in there somewhere. Last year I only made it halfway through the read-a-thon because I had to work. (I work nights!) This year I took the night off, so I am hoping that I will be able to make it at least until midnight or so!

Mid Event Survey

Mid-Event Survey

 1. What are you reading right now? A Spoonful of Poison by M.C. Beaton
2. How many books have you read so far? Unfortunately just the one, so far.
3. What book are you most looking forward to for the second half of the Read-a-thon? Not sure, I might jump into the next Agatha Raisin book when I'm finished with this one.
4. Did you have to make any special arrangements to free up your whole day? Not really. Unfortunately, I have to work tonight so I won't be able to blog any longer, but luckily I will still be able to read and keep up with the Dewey website.
5. Have you had many interruptions? How did you deal with those? My Mom stopped by for a little bit and I took a short nap. I just roll with it and am grateful for any amount I get read.
6. What surprises you most about the Read-a-thon, so far? I've been doing the Read-a-thons since the beginning and I am absolutely thrilled that so many people are participating this year. I hope they continue to grow!
7. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year? No, you all do a fabulous job!
8. What would you do differently, as a Reader or a Cheerleader, if you were to do this again next year? I might see about taking the night off from work next time, but we'll see how it goes tonight.
9. Are you getting tired yet? Nope, my little nap helped and I am good to go!
10. Do you have any tips for other Readers or Cheerleaders, something you think is working well for you that others may not have discovered? Have plenty of books on hand in case you get bored with your current read. Different types of books handy is a great thing. Having a Kindle helps a lot! Plus keep lots of snacks on hand and drinks, and most of all have fun and read, read, READ!

Thanks a lot for making the Read-a-thon so much fun!

Had fun working on challenges this hour. Now, back to reading!

Kick Off Meme

I'm very excited to be starting the first read-a-thon for 2014. I have been doing the read-a-thons since the very beginning, sometimes with not so great success, but, hey, any bit of reading done is a good thing, even if it isn't as much as I wanted.

So, on to the Kick off Meme:

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today? Queensbury, NY

 2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to? A Spoonful of Poison by M.C. Beaton, always glad to get back to see what Agatha Raisin is up to.

 3) Which snack are you most looking forward to? Probably not the best day to ALSO be starting a new diet, but I'm going carb free today (and for the next two weeks), so I'll be enjoying delicious deli turkey meat, cheddar and swiss cheese, black olives, salad, maybe some pork rinds! Yum!

 4) Tell us a little something about yourself! I've always been a big reader, but somehow over the last couple of years, reading has been put on the back burner. Being able to participate in the read-a-thon gives me a chance to get my nose deep into some books and hopefully find time to read more until the next read-a-thon comes along. I have a 10 year old daughter,  and somehow have ended up with 9 dogs all living in the same house. Small ones, luckily, mostly Chihuahuas, and they are all really good snugglers when I have a good book and a blanket, they are all most happy to climb on and cuddle. When they aren't running around barking at a leaf blowing across the lawn!

 5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to? Last year I wasn't very prepared in the snacks department, which ended up costing me a lot of reading time while I prepared food. This year I think I've got everything I'll need to get through. (fingers crossed)
